Is your company getting ready for the effects of the Brazilian General Data Protection Law, which main provisions will enter in force in August 2020 (a little more than a year from now)? On August 14, 2018, Brazilian executive introduced Law #13,709;2018, which provides on the treatment of personal data, including in digital media, by a natural individual or legal entity, with the objective of protecting the fundamental rights of freedom and privacy and the free development of the personality of the natural individual.
In general, one could say that such legislation, to an extent, very much reflects the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), which were introduced in Europe recently, with important, effects, that shall be also addressed in detail by Brazilian companies, under the potential exposure to fines and sanctions.
